Current Occupation: Justice of the Peace | Birthdate: 06/03/1964
Rich Herman has been a supporter of the Republican Party since his return home from Europe serving in the US Army in 1986. As a result of his involvement and leadership with his several local non-profit agencies, Rich has been asked on several occasions to consider seeking public office. However, Rich’s response has always been that the only position he would consider is the office of Justice of the Peace. When asked why, Rich has explained that he believes that as a Justice of the Peace, he could go to work every day and return home at the end of the day knowing he made a difference. Since moving to Amarillo in 2002, Rich has actively pursued his desired to make a difference by serving others.
Rich believes in “Servant Leadership”, and that one of the main reasons that our country has some of the political issues and problems we face today is because, as a nation, we have stopped electing true servant leaders. Rich explains that we elect individuals based on what they say they are going to do, and not based on what they have done. By electing true servant leaders, we can change things for the better. He also believes that a leader should prove he/she is a true servant leader before being asked to lead. Rich has demonstrated this type of leadership in every organization that he has served. Rich has been successful in leadership roles and organizations because of his honesty, character, compassion, and empathy. His desire to make a difference and improve Potter County for all of our residents centers on action as opposed to just words and empty, unfulfilled promises.
Why are you running for office?
Since serving as Justice of the Peace here in Potter County it has taught me a love of the law and a respect for the bench and judicial system. Knowledge of the law is what makes a court operate fairly, efficiently and effectively. Especially in a people’s court, where many parties are unrepresented, the judge needs knowledge of the law, a passionate heart, since of fairness, and an understanding of how to apply the law to the facts. I feel that since serving my community that there is so much more that I can do in this position if reelected, because in just three years I have saved the tax paying citizens of our community over One Million Dollars just by conducting thorough Inquests when called on. In less than three years we disposed of thousands of backlogged cases, expunged thousands of Juvenile criminal records, and streamlined our office using S.W.O.T. analysis, and other methods of cutting the unneeded tasks in serving our customers. If reelected I will continue to improve our operation while conducting many more activities and improving our community.
